    We are now beginning to see a renewed interest in hot limes, but further testing and curing of these mortars is necessary in order that we can fully understand their complexity. Hopefully this will lead to an improvement in the skill of using and preparing such mortars

  • Past: Heritage Skills in the Walled Garden

    FREE open day, where you could have had a go at a range of traditional skills and speak to craftsmen Brendan Teasdale and Nick Graham undertaking work in the Walled Garden developments.

    Workshops included:

    • Walk and Talk Tour with Archaeologist Harry Beamish
    • Lime pointing on Brickwork
    • Lime pointing on Stonework
    • Banker Masonry – stone carving
    • Lime Slake
    • Lead Formwork
    • Traditional Roofing

    Those who took part in workshops were advised to wear appropriate clothing and footwear, preferably steel toe cap boots. Suitable for the whole family - no was experience required.

    The event was organised in partnership with Auckland Castle Trust.

  • Past: Heritage Skills Festival

    The Skills Festival took place within our beautiful surroundings at Thorp Perrow Arboretum where our Yorkshire Office is based. Conservation enthusiasts were given the opportunity to experience:

    • Traditional Skill demonstrations
    • 'Have a Go' sessions for children and adults
    • Expert speakers
    • Advice for those wanting to gain Traditional Skill qualifications
    • Exhibits and opportunities to speak to Team Force Restoration
