Stone walls need to breathe and need to remain flexible. Lime should be the basis for mortars, grouts, washes and renders. Cleaning, if necessary at all, is an expert's job, a complex process that requires a sensitive touch and deep understanding. High pressure grit blasting and indiscriminate use of powerful chemicals have caused enormous damage and must be avoided.

We can analyse your existing mortar even if the building in question is several hundred years old and re-create the existing mortar. We can also age the pointing using old traditional techniques and carry out repairs to stones, saving the client thousands of pounds on stone replacements; one good thing about this technique is that the mortar repair will look the same as the existing stone.

If stone on your building is corroding and has been pointed with a cement based mortar, this modern type mortar will not allow the stone to breath and is too strong, water will not evaporate from the stone, causing over a period of time irreversible damage unless urgent action is taken.
